Problem:
I wanted a way to temporarily store links and pages, day by day, in a central location. No categorizing, no sharing with virtual friends, no "tag clouds". I didn't even wan't to make the effort to name them. I wanted them to eventually disappear and not leave a mess for me to clean up.
Motivation:
Frequently I've come across sites that were down at the moment, or I didn't want to stop reading the page I was on, but I wanted to remember to go back when I was done.
Some days I wanted to quickly scan over my frequent sites, read the important stuff, and mark the stuff I'd like to get back to if I had time. Basically a way to prioritize what to read.
Sometimes I came across something I wanted to read at home, but was at work, or vice versa. Then there are the NSFW links teasing me with their unknown delights when I'm at work.
Solution:
These images will give you an idea how it works:
You'll need to create an account consisting of a username, password, and timezone, and email address, and you'll need to get the "plugin", available for Firefox or IE. The firefox add-on is very easy to install. The IE plugin consists of 2 small javascript files and a couple registry entries, but needs to be packaged with a windows installer, so it seems more elaborate than it actually is -- no executables.
You don't have to worry about trusting me with your email address. I also run sneakemail.com. It is an spam fighting site that has been live since 2000, and has safely protected hundreds of thousands of email addresses.
